The Berkeley Drop-In Center is a multi-purpose community center run by and for past and present mental health clients and persons undergoing significant emotional distress. The Center is a safe, informal place for people to meet and socialize, share peer and group support, take part in recreational and social activities, and get help in obtaining basic survival and other life needs. The Center has three basic service components: 1) Drop-In time: mail and message service; food vouchers; free clothes; transportation assistance; snacks; support groups; TV; a place to socialize and get a cup of coffee; planned social events such as movies, parties and ball games 2) Service advocacy: help getting and keeping SSI, General Assistance, and other financial benefits; job counseling and assistance; peer counseling and group discussions; information and referral; advocacy and rights protection; help with money management; payee representative services; medical referrals; substance abuse counseling & groups; services coordination 3) Housing advocacy: Through various programs, provides 60 subsidized supportive housing Units; Provide housing advocacy, referral and information.
